Bands and Butterflies

The principles of Pilates are; control, precision, alignment, breathing, flow, centring, concentration & relaxation. The dictionary defines Pilates as a system of exercises designed to improve physical strength, flexibility & posture.
It does…yet Pilates goes far beyond its literal definition. It is a form of exercise open to & beneficial for everyone. Pilates allows for an individual approach, in that exercises can be adapted to help clients reach their natural potential, irrespective of their starting point. It is recommended not only for the physically fit, but for those who suffer from back & neck pain, arthritis, sports injuries, stress-relates illnesses, ME, osteoporosis, it is ideal for the elderly. In fact, the list is endless.
The name ‘Bands & Butterflies’, came about because bands refers to a small piece of equipment designed to add resistance & butterflies as they represent symmetry, fluidity & precision, so important in Pilates.
PILATES BEGINNER'S CLASSES - MATWORK
Beginner’s classes are for those who have little or no experience of Pilates. Units are designed to build an understanding of the principles of Pilates, & lay a good foundation for progression. Mixed classes are for those who have previously practised Pilates, or completed a Beginner’s unit. The focus still remains with the principles but with new levels, exercises & progressions introduced. Both classes will frequently use small equipment.
To practise Pilates requires patience, precision & progression which is the philosophy behind booking in units, six weeks in length, to provide continuity each week.
Classes are to be pre-booked (as class numbers are limited) in six week units at a cost of £39.00 Mats & small equipment are provided.
PILATES STARTER SESSION - MATWORK
Maximise the benefits of your Pilates matwork classes with a Pilates Starter Session. During one hour the principles of Pilates will be explained in theory & practice with focus on posture, neutral pelvis, core stability & the all important starting positions. Worksheets provided!

BESPOKE ONE TO ONE PILATES
One to one Pilates sessions are taught in the comfort of your own home at a time to suit you. The entire focus is you, the client. A bespoke session concentrates on your body & your specific needs, whether that is to tackle a particular issue or to work on a more balanced, leaner, sculpted physique.
Realistic goals, past & present fitness levels & postural analysis will be discussed in the first session; then a progressive programme is designed just for you, for your needs & postural type. This is all kept in a Bands & Butterflies notebook for your reference, motivation & development.
Whether you’d like a one to one session once a week, once a fortnight, once a month or just at random times through the year, please phone or email for more information. To enhance your programme small equipment will often be used during the session; resistance bands & hoops, chi balls, stability & weighted balls, free weights & magic circles.
If you would like to team up with a buddy for a very small group session contact Bands & Butterflies. One to one sessions last for one hour, prices start from £28. Please note the first session will be 1 & 1/2 hours, to complete postural assessment, client profile & begin some practical work.
