Matwork Pilates - Drop In Sessions
Matwork Pilates is a series of 34 pilates exercises developed by Joseph Pilates completed on an exercise mat. The main theme of matwork exercise is in maintaining a central core of stability in the lower back and pelvis region against the loads of our own limbs and bodyweight. The exercises are designed to promote core stability, flexibility, endurance, postural and body awareness and to correct muscle imbalances.
Joseph Pilates believed that injuries were caused by imbalances in the body and habitual patterns of movement. He observed that when a person had a weakness or area out of alignment, they would overcompensate or overdevelop another area of the body to achieve a certain functional movement. In order to prevent recurrence of injury he found that it was critical to correct the alignment and to re-educate the body. These observations and principles are still relevant in modern physiotherapy.
The exercises that Joseph Pilates developed have been modified to suit a modern lifestyle. My training with Modern Pilates and The APPI incorporates principles based on up-to date research from the world of physiotherapy and other holistic forms of exercise.
The programme that I teach through Revive Pilates is designed to develop balance through the body and build strong stable muscles that are flexible and correctly aligned.
Class sizes are small, limited to 12 people on a course, to enable individual attention with an emphasis on hands on correcting and reassurance. My experience as a Physiotherapist has enabled me to be particularly effective in helping clients to carry out techniques safely and effectively and to address any problem areas they may have.
By attending a beginners course clients are introduced to the core concepts of Modern Pilates so that they are able to build on basic exercises and develop safely into more challenging techniques. All the Pilates classes I teach are suitable for people with back and shoulder problems can be beneficial for assisting clients in their rehabilitation.
