three sixty° Personal Training: A New Dimension in Personal Training
To the uneducated and almost terminally inactive writer there are seemingly two types of personal trainer: those for whom the job is a means to an end (culminating cosmetically in your flat, lean tummy and their flat screen telly), and those who approach the work with a fastidiousness that almost borders on obsession.
As enthusiastic as he is erudite, three sixty° Director Matt Brereton-Patel certainly embodies the latter. Relentlessly researching new techniques and technologies that might be incorporated into his training methods, and with an infectious passion for health science, physical therapy and even spirituality, each client can buy themselves an instructor who’s equal parts Hippocrates, George Harrison and Mr Motivator: an eclectic cocktail indeed (organic and sugar-free, naturally).
Matt’s background in pharmaceutical research means that remedial and now pre-emptive approaches to health have been the focus of his working life, and with a diary chronicling everything from trekking through the Himalayas to diving in the Great Barrier Reef, Matt is no stranger to all things active. Nor is he unacquainted with some of the most beautiful places in the cosmos. Consequently, after realising he was able to combine these interests he chose the world’s finest metropolis as his base for a career as a personal trainer.
Once qualified, any personal trainer can make any client run around any field. All that’s required is a field. However it’s difficult to over-emphasise Matt’s interest in identifying and rectifying all underlying factors behind less than optimum health, rather than simply addressing the symptoms of this.
A Goal(y) Trinity
Beginning with a free 30 minute consultation Matt will attempt to outline the three-pronged objectives of three sixty°, but more importantly how these relate to the specific needs of the client: functional physical health and fitness (addressing muscular imbalance, joint restriction and movement dysfunction), biochemical balance (including hormones, nutrients and toxic metals) and a happy mental equilibrium (often affected by stress, depression and anxiety).
To achieve these, and beyond the conventional protein shakes and avoiding cakes, Matt offers a multitude of traditional methods and advanced, innovative techniques which may be combined and implemented according to the client’s requirements.
The Holistic Mystic
This bottomless-pit of healthy holistic goodies includes massage therapy (injury rehabilitation and deep tissue disciplines, combining both Eastern and Western techniques), food intolerance testing and nutritional consultation, metabolic typing, a free three sixty° Elimination Diet, Hair Mineral Analysis (measuring nutrient, toxic metal and metabolic activity, thereby indicating any required nutritional or dietary supplements), hormone profiling, even meditation and yoga.
However potential clients shouldn’t be deterred by the technicalities of Matt’s approach. Although many of the above components of three sixty° might be misconstrued as being unrelated to physical activity and wellbeing they are nonetheless inextricably linked to the overall process and outcome.
Put simply the conventional objectives of using a personal trainer, such as improved cardio-vascular fitness, muscle strength and tone, flexibility, posture and fat-loss are the natural result of a thorough and remedial examination of the underlying reasons as to why these things are absent, thereby rectifying the root causes, not simply the cosmetic symptoms.
