A Long History of Tradition...

Cheshire Stained Glass is a company with a long history of tradition and craftsmanship. Founded in the 1960s, by current owner Michael Birch's father, it is a company which can truly promote itself as an established family business. However, it's not just the Birch family who can trace their roots back to the beginnings of the company - unlike many businesses of today, where workers come and go, Cheshire Stained Glass has retained the skill and expertise of its craftsmen, through its nurturing of not only people, but their artistic skills and talents.

Commissions and restoration projects come in many shapes and sizes. No project is deemed too big or too small. Michael and his team are equally at home restoring a glass panel from a Victorian door, to collaborating on the restoration of the stained glass work in Gorton Monastery - no mean feat, as this involved the meticulous and painstaking renovation of 400 stained and leaded panels on a building deemed to be on a par with the Taj Mahal!

Didsbury abounds with some beautiful and majestic period properties - unfortunately, age sometimes doesn't treat these properties well and once stunning stained glass windows, leaded lights and sash windows can fall into disrepair and neglect. However, Cheshire Stained Glass can sympathetically restore the ravages of time and much of its work is in evidence in the Didsbury area. The skilled craftsmen from the company can also create bespoke doors, designed to perfectly match their surroundings, and fit into Didsbury's doorways. Joinery is another area in which the company excels due to the fact that an eye for detail and quality is of paramount importance.

Versatility is a vital string to the company's bow. As well as restoration projects, Cheshire Stained Glass can be called upon to carry out contemporary projects, but still utilising the traditional and proven methods of working. As a real source of ideas, design, artistic creativity and flair, Michael can offer the whole package from concept to installation.

Because Michael sees his work as art, not all of his creations end up in a window frame. Some pieces actually do become works of art - and looking at the range and variety of styles, this seems to make perfect sense.
