Expert Witness
I have been an expert witness for court since 1996, during which time I have prepared over 1000 medico-legal reports. I work predominantly in the personal injury domain, having assessed road traffic and industrial accident cases. I also assess the psychological impact of alleged clinical negligence, occupational stress, and the effects of interpersonal crime on victims.
I have experience of giving evidence in court, and attend medico-legal training events. I am married to a Deputy District Judge, who updates me with regard to any changes in the Civil Procedure Rules. I am included in the UK Register of Expert Witnesses, an APIL approved expert, and a Sweet and Maxwell checked expert.
I am instructed by claimant and defendant solicitors, and also jointly instructed.
Specialist area
I now have considerable experience in the assessment and treatment of road traffic accident cases, from the relatively minor to serious incidents involving fatalities and disablement. I have expertise in the efficient treatment of travel anxiety and post traumatic stress.
Therapist
I am an adult mental health specialist. I practise CBT i.e. cognitive behaviour therapy, the mainstream evidence-based approach in the UK. Therapy tends to be brief, often 6 – 20 sessions, and is goal-directed. The emphasis is on developing self-help skills, and results are obtained by understanding how our thoughts and interpretations of events can have a dramatic impact on how we feel and behave. Clients are supported to consider and try out different ways of thinking and behaving.
I am also influenced by other models of psychotherapy, and I have received training in IPT (Interpersonal Therapy), meditation techniques, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Thought Field Therapy (TFT). I lean towards holistic practice, and I am interested in exercise and nutrition and their effects on emotional well-being. I am comfortable discussing and sharing ideas about spirituality and one’s meaning and purpose in life.
Clients
Telephone me on 0161 445 0329 leaving a brief message and a contact number. I am always happy to talk on the phone to see whether I am the right professional for you. I normally suggest an initial consultation before arranging regular sessions. I normally recommend that I write to your GP as a matter of protocol once I have seen you, but there may be exceptions to this.
I see clients and claimants at 25 St. John Street, which is in central Manchester. There is a flight of stairs to my room. In special circumstances I can make home visits. If you have to cancel due to illness for example my telephone number Street is 07736 406 776. I do not charge for missed appointments if I have had notice that there has been an unavoidable problem, otherwise I do.
Client appointments
I see clients on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons. Therapy sessions are typically 1 hour, medico-legal assessments for 1 ½ hours in general.
