Folk is my regular lunch stop, the salads and service rock; always an extreemly plesant way to break up a tiresome day at work.

A quality place that represents what Burton Road should be all about.

Funky and friendly, Folk is the perfect place to catch up with friends over a coffee or a glass of wine.

The Venue

Previously known as the Deli On Burton Road this trendy little café/deli/bar has loads of character. The funky wallpaper and retro furnishings give the place a cool vibe and the interesting chandeliers and fairy lights in the window add sparkle. Seating is provided in all shapes and sizes and you’ll find a mix of comfy sofas, small wooden tables and chairs and sleek diner-style booths at the back. The deli counter sits alongside the bar where you can find all sorts of delicious treats from specialty cheeses to colourful salads. On the walls hang quirky pictures with a cute little book exchange adding a nice touch. And, if the sun is shining, you can sit out front and watch the world go by from their attractive patio/terrace area with tiny palm trees thrown in.

The People

Locals’ pop in and grab something from the deli; others stay for longer, to read the paper, grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends. The crowd is young and clued-up and so are the staff. This is also reflected in the eclectic music playing in the background. It’s a relaxing place to hang out and is fairly quiet on an evening but it’s at the weekends when Folk really comes to life. Saturday and Sunday lunchtime is always packed with plenty of atmosphere and if you’ve bagged yourself a table you’ve done well.

The Food

From brunch treats like poached eggs to hearty homemade soups, Folk has a good range of tasty food on offer. You can grab a sandwich for £4.25 with fillings including turkey, pancetta and avocado to tomato, mozzarella and pesto. If you fancy something more substantial you can opt for pie and mash (£7.50) or a mezze plate from the deli with loads of stuffed vine leaves, salads and olives etc. For those with a sweet tooth the iced cupcakes are a good choice or you can tuck into a big slab of carrot cake for £2.95.

The Drink

To wash down your food you can sip on a big cup of coffee or a specialty tea. Cold drinks on offer range from fresh juices to the more unusual old school dandelion and burdock (£1.50). If you fancy something stronger you can get stuck into the ample selection of bottled beers and ciders with the likes of Magners, Modelo, and the most excellent Argentinean Quilmes on offer. On draught you’ve got Guinness, Staropramen and Becks, a pint will set you back about £3. And if that doesn’t take your fancy there’s plenty of wines and spirits on offer.

The Last Word

Folk is a charming little place to hang out in West Didsbury, with the added selling point of the deli just incase you need to pick up some tasty food bits for later. Perfect.

Fundraising Assistant

Hi Annalise
Thanks so much for your contribution to our Big Breakfast event for National Adoption Week - £52.05 which is a great amount! Was this all just from the cupcakes!? We really do appreciate your support, the money raised will go towards helping us support adopted children, for example providing Family Days that bring adopted children and their families together with other adoptive families. Many thanks again and hope to see you for After Adoption’s Big Breakfast 2009!
Kind regards
