The Lancasterian School is a specialist communication education establishment dedicated to teaching and supporting children with a range of physical and medical disabilities such as sensory impairment.
We believe that every single pupil has the right to control his or her own life, and share their opportunities, challenges and experiences with their peers.
We exist to ensure that every single pupil enjoys a flexible, rewarding and fulfilling education, tailored to their individual needs.
Established in 1906, the Lancasterian School has been servicing the needs of pupils for over a century.
We specialise in helping children overcome their disabilities and communicate with the world around them. In some cases, we provide our pupils with a voice for the first time in their life. At Lancasterian we also teach a range of students aged between 5 and 16 years old who are unable to attend mainstream schools due to their unique educational needs.
Our dedicated teachers and staff provide an extremely high standard of care and learning for each of our pupils, and our specialist team members are able to aid in anything from speech and language therapy to individual support for families, carers and pupils.
As well as offering education, care and support within the school, we also provide support to pupils and families outside of school hours, with a range of extra-curricular activities and support groups.
We pledge to serve the children, families and carers we work with in an honest, professional and committed manner.
A Brief History of our School...
Originally set up as the Santa Fina School by Manchester University’s Santa Fina Society in 1906, the school took its name when it moved to the Joseph Lancaster School in New Cross, Manchester.
Following the Second World War, the school was moved to Cavendish Road, West Didsbury before finally moving to its present purpose built premises in 1973. Since the 1970s, our resources and facilities have developed to continually meet the needs of pupils with all manner of physical disabilities.
We are proud of our long and successful history, but our eyes are fixed firmly on the future as we strive to provide the best possible care, education and opportunities for everybody associated with the Lancasterian School.
Our Achievements...
Over the past century, the Lancasterian School has become an integral part of our local community. Our achievements in the field of specialist education and care allow us to support and nurture children with additional needs throughout Manchester.
We have developed our role of supporting pupils in mainstream schools, operating the Lancasterian Barrier Free Partnership to develop and promote the inclusion of pupils with additional needs in mainstream schools throughout the city.
Our efforts have not gone unnoticed, and recent Ofsted reports have noted that we offer "very high quality teaching which ensures the pupils achieve well".
