Diddi-Dance Hits Didsbury
Manchester mum Lisa Lawson has turned her back on a marketing career and just launched a new toddlers dance class with a difference.
With her daughter Ellen approaching her first birthday, Lisa decided that it was time to set up her own business with child-friendly hours. Having always been involved in dancing, Lisa bought into a Diddi Dance franchise and has launched classes across Didsbury, Burnage and Gatley.
With a focus on funky and modern dance such as hip hop, Bollywood, jive, salsa, this is a really great way to keep little ones entertained and introduce them to a fun way to exercise. Lisa, 33, who grew up in Withington, explained: "From taking classes at the local Madeley School of Dance in Didsbury from being a toddler through to my teens and then my first Saturday job was teaching the little ones there, dance has always been a part of my life. For me it was a case of everything coming together in the right place at the right time. I was made redundant from my previous job prior to going on maternity leave, and as I was nearing the end of my maternity leave last year I began looking for something that I would enjoy, be passionate about and that would fit around my lifestyle now I have a little girl."
Lisa has been a dancer in musical productions with the South Manchester Amateur Operatic Society and also danced in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
With past experience as a class teacher in a pre-school activity, she explained, “I know what a buzz it is to see how the children respond, grow in confidence and capability each week. Most importantly, it’s amazing to see them laughing, smiling and having so much fun.”
Diddi Dance classes were devised by Anne-Marie Wilkins, a professional dancer with over 10 years teaching experience. After running for over four years in London she decided to expand across the country via a franchise model. Diddi Dance teachers also run sessions at nurseries and Sure Start centres, where the programme has been devised to complement and enhance the Early Years Foundation Stage, as well as offering birthday parties. All the music is written especially for the classes, and even the most shy little ones find the various props used hard to resist!
Classes are tailored for two to four-year-olds and are popular for both boys and girls. Parents are encouraged to join in and enjoy the class as well. Lisa is offering youngsters in South Manchester a chance to take part in a free trial class - contact Lisa on 07966 542 985 to book a free trial or book a course of classes.
