Didsbury in Bloom 2010
Each year many communities throughout the city work with Manchester City Council to participate in 'Bloom' projects. These projects brighten up environments and regenerate communities by tackling local issues and building up the sense of community.
Imaginative planting of trees, flowers and shrubs, combined with projects which tackle litter and antisocial behaviour, create long-term improvements to the local area. Bloom projects in the past around Manchester have included: wildlife gardens, fruit orchards, green play areas and flowering baskets on shop frontages. The communities' ideas and enthusiasm are key to successful and lasting projects.
Last year Didsbury was awarded 1st place in the Urban Communities category, going up against areas from all over the North West.
As a result Didsbury was put through to the National Britain In Bloom for 2010. The RHS Britain In Bloom judges are in Didsbury on the afternoon of the 11th August and some of the Bloom committee are heading to the RHS Britain In Bloom awards ceremony on 29th September where the results will be revealed.
