Didsbury Food Market : Saturday 10th July
Here at Didsbury Life, we're about working with, and promoting, independent businesses. Too many of our high streets are cluttered with the same, formulaic chains - great if that's what you like, but some people prefer something more unique, quirky and, well, independent. So we were delighted to find out that, finally, Manchester Markets has come to Didsbury.
The weekend of 12th/13th June saw the first Didsbury Food Market, and judging by the number of people there yesterday, it's going to be a big success. Granted, the weather was glorious - but so was the market. It was in the perfect location - snaking around Didsbury Library, so there was no missing it.
Billed as a Food Market, there was certainly plenty of choice. From "Coffee Fix", serving and selling fresh coffee from the back of the cutest van [see images and look out for it around Didsbury & West Didsbuy], to fish which was clearly incredibly fresh. From simmering, bubbling pans of the most aromatic smelling curries to strawberry topped cupcakes. From freshly baked bread to home made fudges and ice-creams. It was a foodie's delight! [It did seem that a couple of stalls had sneaked in - not sure how tape and handbags fit under the description of "food", but at least they added to the variety!]
The Didsbury Food Market is set to run every second Saturday of the month. Hopefully with a bit more publicity - word on the street was that not many people had known about it and had just stumbled upon it - it will grow from strength to strength, especially given all of the fabulous independent foodie enterprises in Didsbury and West Didsbury.
