"God is a Manc" by Mike Garry - Book Launch 17th June

God is a Manc is the new collection of poems written by Mike Garry, to be published by Cheers Ta Publications on June 17th 2010.

Initially commissioned by the BBC and Arts Council England, Mike spent three months travelling the length and breadth of North Manchester, including Harpurhey, Miles Platting, Moston, Crumpsall, New Islington and Blackley, in order to research for his book.

God is a Manc documents this journey inspired by the people, places and histories that Mike encountered throughout the streets of Manchester. This new book is the follow up to Mancunian Meander(Gorton Girls Know all the Words to songs by Chaka Khan), which focused on the south side of the City. God is a Manc completes the story.

There will be an official book launch on Thursday 17th June upstairs at Odder Bar, Oxford Road, Manchester (opposite the BBC). This will be a night of celebration, featuring performance poetry from Marvin Cheesman; live music from Mark Kennedy; DJ set from Dave Hulston; and, of course, Mike Garry himself will be hosting the evening and reading selects poems from God is a Manc.
