Tread - Unique Eco Ethical Home & Garden Products

A unique business that blends contemporary design, traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and functionality is beginning to turn heads from its south Manchester base. Heaton Moor’s Tread is carving a name for itself as a producer of intricately patterned picture frames and garden planters made from rubber, or more accurately, re-cycled tyres.

Beautiful recycled home & garden products

A small group of artisans in Morocco hand cut and reform the waste materials, crafting them into the beautiful home and garden products. "We work closely on designs and ideas mainly with a very talented young guy called Lachan in Morocco, He’s very creative with what he does, and has really developed this traditional craft" explained Karen Brierley, who co-owns the company with Anna Tutton.

"We offer a unique product that combines the eco ethic with a desirable aesthetic, We’re really proud to be helping support and sustain the artisan communities and there traditional crafts." she said.

Brierley previously worked as a freelance interior designer before establishing Tread earlier this year with Tutton, formerly a financial advisor. The popularity of their work is growing, with a successful appearance at this year’s Tatton Park show adding to demand.

Tyre Furniture...

"We’re looking to increase our selection of planters, as a result of inquiries from people looking for that something slightly different. We also plan to design furniture in the same way - tables, benches and a line of outdoor furniture," said Brierley. "Our business is definitely unique, there is no one else really promoting or developing this creative work with the re-use of old tyres," she added, referring to the way the original grips form the patterns that give the products their trademark look.

Shop and bar interiors

Opportunities are already developing for shop and bar interiors- a route that Brierley believes could prove successful for the business. Burton Road’s Living Flowers shop already has items from the range, with neighbouring interiors shop David Gavin preparing to use the products in a forthcoming window display. For now though one thing’s for sure, if you’re looking for quality workmanship and eye-catching products that you simply can’t find anywhere else, all roads lead to Tread.
