It's that time of year again, and we're gearing up for the annual switch-on of the West Didsbury Christmas Lights. In the tradition of WestFest and Cavfest, this event is being named "LightsFest"...
The Switch-On will happen on THURSDAY 1st DECEMBER outside the Co-op on Burton Road, West Didsbury. The event will begin at approximately 6.30pm and we expect it to last 30mins. Before the official switch-on, we'll have carols sung by the choirs from Cavendish Primary and Lancasterian School.
For the 2011 Switch-On, we've managed to secure Simon Rimmer, co-owner of Greens on Lapwing Lane and co-presenter of "Something For The Weekend". And Liverpool fan - although we won't hold that against him :-) Simon will follow in the footsteps of Clint Boon & Dave Haslam who've flicked the Christmas switch at our previous events - http://didsburylife.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/santa-boon-does-the-honours.
We'll also be doing the draw for the carved owl (hand carved by local West Didsbury resident, Andy Burgess) at the switch-on - the prize draw was launched at WestFest in September and we're now very close to our target of £1000 which will be the West Didsbury contribution to the Lights Fund - http://westfest.org.uk/10/lightsfest.html - other prizes will be drawn just after the event. We're thinking it might just be a bit too chilly to announce 30+ prize winners. All prize winners & ticket numbers will be posted on the Westfest site and on Didsbury Life. There are still tickets available from the Didsbury Life office and Fusion Deli on Lapwing Lane. Didsbury's Olympic 2012 hopeful, Andrew Steele, who'll be kick-starting our prize draw. If you win The Owl, you could have a prize which has been drawn by a potential Olympic medallist...

*IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION - this is a family event and as such we request that ALL children be accompanied by an adult. We would also request that people attending the event congregate on the other side of Burton Rd. On the advice of the police, we also request that people do not step into the road, as Burton Road will still be OPEN to traffic.
