Experience Didsbury: a Vibrant Community

Experience Didsbury: a Vibrant Community

Didsbury is a town like no other, with different areas for different tastes and experiences - all combined however, to produce a truly unique little corner of South Manchester.

We have it all here. Beautiful expansive green spaces such as Fog Lane Park and the stunning Fletcher Moss Park and gardens, as well as real hidden gems such as the Marie Louise Gardens and the delightful Paupers Wood, nestled just off Nell Lane. Three fabulous golf courses, with the River Mersey meandering through them. Two spectacular tennis clubs - with international tennis stars often found enjoying a summer rally or two.

Festivals are a real part of Didsbury life - the annual summer Didsbury Festival attracting people in their thousands, and the Disbury Arts Festival, which will showcase the wide breadth and depth of artistic talent in the locality. Theatre in the park is a regular summer event, with numerous theatre groups choosing Fletcher Moss Park as a stunning outdoor venue.

Surprising Didsbury...

Didsbury is also full of surprises. Stroll down Old Lansdowne Road and you'll literally stumble across The Albert Club - a real West Didsbury hidden treasure. Recently renovated and boasting a pristine crown green bowling green, it is the perfect place to while away a summer's evening. Another surprise for the uninitiated is the secret garden behind Thyme Out Delicatessen. Although it's just off busy Nell Lane, you'll immediately forget the outside world as you enjoy some of Ben's fare in the seclusion of the country cottage style garden.

Surprising architecture is in abundance in Didsbury. The Towers, a Grade II listed building, now surrounded by modern office blocks, has been described as "the grandest of all Manchester mansions". The art deco style Siemens building on the intersection of Nell Lane and Princess Parkway is a landmark introduction to West Didsbury from the North and South. At the top of Didsbury village, two elegant Victorian villas have been converted into stunning boutique hotels - Didsbury House and Eleven Didsbury Park. Don't be overly surprised to see a famous face sitting across the table at breakfast!

Shopping in Didsbury...

Retail therapy is easily achieved in Didsbury - but not if all you want is your standard high street fare. If you're on the look out for that extra special something, you'll find it here in Didsbury.

Harriett and Dee, on the cobbled sidestreet off Wilmslow Road, is full of exquisite jewellery, gifts and accessories. Across the road is the famous Morten's Bookshop - the saviour of all Didsbury students! Wendy Levy's Art Gallery sits on the corner - affording plenty of outdoor space for those art enthusiasts who regularly queue overnight when Liam Spencer exhibits.

Children are well catered for in Didsbury - Pixie Clothing, Rumpus Toys and Razmareads, as well as numerous highly regarded nurseries and schools.

Over in West Didsbury, a resurgence is happening. Independent enterprise is really flourishing - Moth on Burton Road offers unique and stylish interior accessories, Novus Art Gallery is instrumental in showcasing new and emerging talent, Steranko continues to dress the Didsbury fashionistas, whilst Amy, at Pearl Lingerie, makes sure that all Didsbury girls are perfectly dressed - under our clothes!

WestFest

In West Didsbury, the community feel is evident again. 2009 will see the inaugural WestFest - a weekend of celebration of the spirit of independence in the area. With a thriving Residents' Association, working closely with Didsbury Life and the unique independent businesses, the area is steadily becoming a real South Manchester destination.
